dr|z3d: don't know if you've ever seen this, but today my console told me there was a 2025-09-18 22:10:08 UTC update = so just for fun, I d/led the uncompressed ~16 Mb 'update', and restarted. Sure enough I ended up with: d58ea6ce (Build date: 2025-09-18 22:10:08 UTC), which downgraded me from -2+ to -1+. How is it possible the console is not always pulling the latest build from
T3s|4
skank.i2p?
T3s|4
of similar concern, why is my console reporting there is an 'update' (now a week (and 2 bumps) old, today) available?
FreefallHeavens_
Please investigate issues with the addressbook config possibly assuming the hosts files being located at their default locations. Moving hosts.txt to any different path or name breaks at the very least the router console address lookup(hosts list shows up empty), not sure if it also screws the backend.
dr|z3d
T3s|4: dunno, did you update from canon?
dr|z3d
FreefallHeavens_: You can change the location in the configuration section, per addressbook.
dr|z3d
T3s|4: If you attempt to update from canon, you'll fallback to the release update url to avoid the possibility of breakage (no pack200 in canon builds).
dr|z3d
The latest reported update I see here is for 5:51AM UTC, Sep 24.
dr|z3d
T3s|4: the other possibility is that you're using the release upgrade path, not /dev.
FreefallHeavens_
dr|z3d I tried that and it didn't work, even after router restart. even after a simple rename of "hosts.txt" to "0hosts.txt", in both the file name and the config(made sure to save and reload) it stopped populating the router addressbook page.
dr|z3d
Looking at it, I have a feeling the options on the config page are legacy and don't do anything useful.
dr|z3d
The file that contains all the addresses these days is ~/.i2p/hostsdb.blockfile and I'm not sure you can move that.
dr|z3d
the hosts.txt file in the app dir is essentially the seed for a new config dir, which gets converted to a blockfile when it's imported.
dr|z3d
so if you move that file, and then attempt to create a new config/profile, you won't have anything in the addressbook until the subscription hosts are contacted.
dr|z3d
as a general rule, you don't want to mess with anything in the app dir except for the wrapper.config file.
FreefallHeavens_
Everything in there is legacy? Even the addressbook update interval?
FreefallHeavens_
The proxy IP and port work at least.
dr|z3d
no, no, just the *.txt addressbook locations.
dr|z3d
published may still be good, that's for providing a subscription file on a webserver.
dr|z3d
master_addressbook=../userhosts.txt
dr|z3d
private_addressbook=../privatehosts.txt
dr|z3d
router_addressbook=../hosts.txt
dr|z3d
those 3 look like legacy to me.
FreefallHeavens_
That explains a lot and beats the point of me trying to neatly put them all into one folder.
dr|z3d
you'll only have those files if you installed from a very old version of i2p, or you manually created them.
FreefallHeavens_
I have two versions of I2P installed back in late 2013 and updated over time to present day.
FreefallHeavens_
A lot of legacy values in configs and files/folders. Including duplicates from before and after it was decided to store config in ProgramData.
FreefallHeavens_
There is considerable cross-referencing in the settings back and forth between the two folders and you can never really know if something's needed.
FreefallHeavens_
I was messing around with a random file that should at most have broken one of the applets not long ago and the ENTIRE config reset to fresh install, config wizard on startup and all.
FreefallHeavens_
I restored it from a backup but I seem to keep forgetting this rule that the setup taught me time and again over the years: DO NOT TOUCH. MAGIC.
dr|z3d
:)
dr|z3d
That'll do it. When it doubt, leave well alone.
