new shiny in the latest + dev build. on /netdb, we now have a per country ff count.

bad reddit
dr|z3d
about time people stopped using it.
cumlord
use the lemmy
dr|z3d
I vary rarely bother with reddit anymore. when they decided you need to permit their ad servers to login, that did it for me. or whatever restrictions they're placing on logging in.
cumlord
I only venture over there for i2p things but too much of a hassle to post anything now, I give up
dr|z3d
yeah, exactly that.
dr|z3d
no need to venture over to their site, either. we have a few (mostly) functional instances on i2p.
cumlord
There’s been i2p interest in fediverse, easier to answer qs there
cumlord
Thankful for the Reddit frontends 🙏
eyedeekay
re: frontends, the last interactive frontend worth a damn is RedReader
eyedeekay
It's basically the only third-party app that managed to get an exemption to the API fees
eyedeekay
Because it's handicapped-accessible IIRC
dr|z3d
interactive meaning login-enabled?
eyedeekay
Yes
eyedeekay
Basically you can do anything you would normally do on Reddit if you've got some need to interact with it
eyedeekay
It's actually a pretty nice app and I think they're going to add support for activitypub stuff like lemmy soon
eyedeekay
Because there's probably a ticking clock on that API fee exemption
dr|z3d
we really need to start directing people that are using i2p away from reddit.
snex
make a reddit replacement on i2p
dr|z3d
we've already got one. it's called ramble.
eyedeekay
Yeah. I'd like to do it in such a way that it makes some noise for the alternative-of-choice, but I'm not sure how to do that
eyedeekay
snex if somebody wanted to look at what I did with dendrite, and do that the same thing to gotosocial... that might be pretty cool
eyedeekay
What's ramble run on, is it a postmill thing?
dr|z3d
yup, postmill.
eyedeekay
Are they maintaining a fork somewhere?
snex
what is gotosocial
dr|z3d
easiest way to direct people is to put something in the reddit sidebar.
dr|z3d
are they? who is they?
eyedeekay
ramble or whoever is running ramble
eyedeekay
the original postmill is dead as far as I know
dr|z3d
it isn't.
snex
is there a reason they didnt just call it reddit.i2p
eyedeekay
Oh really, I must have old/wrong news
eyedeekay
No shit. Well that's good news to me
dr|z3d
the developer had an issue with a different platform that "borrowed" a chunk of code without attribution, so she took it offline for a while. that got resolved.
eyedeekay
Glad it worked out, I like postmill
eyedeekay
snex re: gotosocial it's basically a mastodon-like activitypub server in Go
eyedeekay
but the neat thing is:
eyedeekay
since activitypub is just talking over HTTP, the process for setting up activitypub-over-I2P is essentially identical to the process of setting up dendrite-over-I2P or any other application that talks over HTTP
eyedeekay
There's a "Dialer" you have to replace somewhere, and a "Listener" you have to replace somewhere, and sometimes an exemption you have to make when the application needs to talk to itself
snex
you would think that all of these things would just let you use n http proxy in settings
eyedeekay
I mean sure you can do it that way, every Go application honors the http_proxy environment variable unless expressly told not to
eyedeekay
But then you can't do things like give your dendrite server a different address when federating with different servers
dr|z3d
sure you can.
dr|z3d
just run a single instance with multiple nginx passthrus.
eyedeekay
Ouch, yeah I guess you could do that
eyedeekay
I think it's harder lol
cumlord
eyedeekay on redirecting away from Reddit -the piracy subreddit semi moved to divisions by zero
eyedeekay
I don't think I'm familiar with that
cumlord
It’s a lemmy instance-some of the larger ones don’t federate it because of the piracy sub there. But there are potential converts there
eyedeekay
could be worth looking at

and welcome to #saltR, too, dec.
dec
thanks
T3s|4
hey dec: saw some of your posts on #i2p-dev, but have no idea what you were actually proposing. Care to explain?
