dr|z3d T3s|4_: he's looking to develop a systray download manager.
dr|z3d (for i2p)
RN does it use eepget, or something else?
RN eepgit + snark?
RN pictures look pretty, but how much of that is actually doable without a mountain of code that need a maintainer?
dr|z3d it doesn't use anything right now afaik. it's a concept.
dr|z3d one assumes that dec will handle maintenance, but who knows? maybe he's hoping someone else realizes his dream :)
postman yes maintenance is a ... dream
postman a holy assignment
dr|z3d postmaintenance!
postman it's draining dreary and dreadful
dr|z3d speaking of maintenance, we now have more optimizations in leaseset display in the latest dev build.
dr|z3d where suitable, labels have been iconized, content has been otherwise trimmed or streamlined.
dr|z3d leaseset display still WIP, but the main page will now just show you your own leasesets.
dec hi devs, i'm interested in completing a workable design at this stage. the implementation will likely be easy for someone who knows how to make taskbar widgets in linux
dec heres the svg
dec each layer is a button click basically
dec theres an api?
dec what is eepget
dec these are the 2 qs that i have right now.
dec i've coded the lucky dip part, gets a random eepsite and dls its index page and stores it on computer for future interest. often someone will mention an eepsite and i can just pull it up from a past fetch and see what they are talking about.
dec so powerful
dr|z3d I don't think you're going to find anyone to code your system tray icon for you, dec.
dec so yeah the bones are almosst all there, its just turning the bash output into widget output, and a nice statemachine to govern the thing, and knowing whats possible with linux taskbar widgets
dr|z3d sorry to dampen your expectations, but if you want a widget, you'll be the one coding it :)
dec its a design for future, i do expect to learn widget stuff one day, but it might be a projectthat someone wants to do, so i'm just throwing the idea out there :)
dec i'll put it up on a forum soon
dec the shasum of the current svg is f26a7f98cf6dab902bd95c737cd0f5d90586195be4fe3859e413e422c222572b btw
dec shasum -a256
dec what i would ask is what do folks use currency to manage downloads? and if this will save you even 5 seconds per download that will add up to generations of saved time. also if it helps to draw people into i2p and to use i2p secureely and helps them mirror content that they like easier then the net effect is going to be very good for freedom.
dec 10,000people x 15 dls/day * 5
dec 208 human hrs per day. Conservative estimate on time saving. That's NOT including the added people who will use i2p as a result. Not including the benefits of people sharing more of the things they need.
dec NOT including the speed savings of being able to just queue things to download when doing other stuff, not including the added benefits of people leaving i2p running at all hours to download things at random scheduled times, not including the privacy benefits of ppl using more than one tunnel for i2p
dec what would the current i2p users do with 208 more hours of time on their side?
dec per day
T3s|4_ dr|z3d: ^noted - dec__, thanks, now I understand :)
zzz re: 2 more hpppers, confirmed and added, thanks
zzz dr|z3d, where's your canonical clearnet source repo now? gitlab abandoned?
dr|z3d gitlab is shit.
dr|z3d they spam but they won't send a confirmation mail to the same address.
zzz if you announced that I missed it
dr|z3d and after I recently tried to force push to master, they blocked me from pushing _to my own repo_.
dr|z3d they're web support for resolution is also useless.
dr|z3d *their
dr|z3d I've contracted eyedeekay's random apostrophe bug :|
zzz combine that with the receive bug
dr|z3d that one hasn't hit me yet
dr|z3d those hoppers have been fairly easy to spot. LU, requesting more tunnels than most.
StormyCloud You madlads did 13m outproxy requests last month
dr|z3d "yes, the above numbers and periods are completely arbitrary. suggestions welcome"
dr|z3d *** chuckles. ***
dr|z3d that's one of your comments, zzz, isn't it? :)
dec__ i don't understand, why use github, it helps microsoft steal foss code and sell it with codepilot
dec__ notabug might be good, or why not talk to a largish gnu or bsd repo and ask to have it there?
dec__ everytime someone in our community chooses github, i feel like bill gates gets the confidence to stab another million children
dec__ our community = foss
dr|z3d it wasn't microsoft when I signed up. but I don't much care about the politics, it hosts code, it runs CI and other tests, and it's free.
dec__ or buy another farm etc, it give the oppressor credibility
dr|z3d you don't have to visit github to view the code, it's also on git.skank.i2p
dec__ taking over farmland from small holders affects us all, his corrupting influence over medical research and institution affects us all, it comes across as very privileged to say i don't care about politics
dec__ his endorsement or toxic poisons in the food production chin and the patenting of seeds affects everyone
eyedeekay If you're going to be running up somebody else's bills with CI time, why not M$?
dr|z3d I don't care _about the politics of github_.
dr|z3d whatever you happen to think about bill gates, he doesn't run microsoft anymore, and he certainly doesn't run github.
dec__ when times change its important to adapt, eyedeekay, they are stealing foss code
snex > steal foss code
snex > wat?
dec__ its microsoft its they are an abusive company, they embezzle money and bribe people in power to pollute our environment with bad tech
snex also... giving gates zero dollars but making him host my stuff somehow helps him? wat?
snex using somebody else's resources and not paying them helps me at their expense
dec__ hi snex are you aware of how credibility works? its the currency of the worst actors. Also i find it hard to believe you are not aware how GPLv3 license work to propate software freedom
dec__ microsoft steal foss code and pass it off as theirs, under the guise of "AI"
dec__ thus they are killing the foss movement.
dec__ github don't allow anonymous accounts, also.
dec__ so by using github it exposes both you and others who are drawn to it as a result of just being there
snex it is impossible to "steal" information
eyedeekay He's talking about licensing
eyedeekay In the case of GPL'ed and copyleft code in general that's very probably true, in the case of permissively licensed code, that's probably not true
eyedeekay in any case, having the code located at a different git instance doesn't prevent Microsoft from abusing it, it just means they don't *also* have to host it
eyedeekay It's perfectly simple to sync i2p.i2p from my gitlab instance where we actually work on it with github or any other git host, and most git hosts I know of have at least one copy
snex im aware what hes talking about. its irrelevant. intellectual property is incoherent nonsense
dec__ will dr|z3d and snexput in there README the sorts of things there are writing here (ie. I'm just using github cos its free and want to use their resources and I recommend other server?, if most people rejected the abuse it would stop.
dec__ snex, big corporations have employees that will blow the whistle if their employer asked them to steal foss code
dec__ microsoft creates a system that makes theft easy, and UNNOTIABLE.
dec__ UNNOTICEABLE
dec__ if bill gates was ulbrict (ie. any other person) he'd be in prison today.
dec__ the only reason he's not there is he has legitimacy
dec__ and credibililty, and is a good marketeer of poisons
snex again... there is literally no such thing as "stealing" code
snex stop abusing language
dr|z3d *** laughs. ***
dr|z3d if bills gates was ross ulbricht, he'd be ross ulbricht and not bill gates.
dec__ yes there is, microsoft is doing it and your microsoft apologesia is telling
dr|z3d if bill gates happened to be the convicted admin for the silk road dark market, yes, he'd be in prison today. and tomorrow. and the day after that.
dec__ bill gates has done worse than ulbricht, ulbricht just didn't have the right corporate structure, foundation, backing
dec__ i would put gates below toe jam, on the utility scale
dr|z3d from a legal standpoint, not really. maybe if you consider windows as being a blight on humanity, then you could argue that. you'd be treading in batshit, but hey.
dec__ i enumerated above
dec__ leaving
eyedeekay How bout this weather?
dr|z3d on the plus side, at least he wasn't advocating for trump.
eyedeekay small miracles
snex bro you cannot steal information
snex stop talking like a dumbass communist
snex the word "steal" has a definition
snex whatever you think bill gates is doing to code does not meet it
snex stop making yourself look foolish
eyedeekay unnoticable theft in this case is just copying, copying is not theft
eyedeekay there are arguments to be made around the rule of law and how people function by making agreements with eachother but hyperbole serves no one
eyedeekay Also pinning all on Bill Gates is unhinged at this point
dr|z3d he's gone, guys.
snex good. purge all communism from i2p
uop23ip what is the verb for: selling i2p release bins to unknown stupid for 20bucks(we all know it is worth way more)? other than profit? it is not stealing i guess. And ofc support will be directed to this irc. lol
snex why do you need a verb for that
uop23ip you know none?
uop23ip maybe it is exploitation, don't know. no lawyer, but for not nice, especially if there is no monetary feedback to the devs. That happened a lot to the bsd guys, iirc.
snex if you werent providing a service, they wouldnt be paying you
uop23ip i think they were even that shameless with openbsd and used their support :)
