welcome to the graveyard shift on #saltr, joan
joan
lol yes thanks.
dr|z3d
don't forget to register with nickserv if you want auto-voice.
dr|z3d
you'll need to register for voice in #i2p-dev also.
joan
yes, i will do that, i realize its probably mipossible to know for sure, but what is the possiblility that a page fetch to an eepsite is detectable? Could traffic analysis go "that looks like an eepsite request" lets block packets that are likely a response to that request"
dr|z3d
in the general noise of your connections, you couldn't definitively say traffic was for an eepsite page.
dr|z3d
participating traffic creates a lot of noise.
joan
ok but what if your connection never seems to attract "Participating tunnel" traffic? Also could a government/isps just drop packets randomly to make i2p performance worse so that it cannot serve peoples everyday needs
joan
last week i asked about a decentralised mesh network for censorship resisting on #i2p, RN suggested that i ask in #i2p-dev
joan
so next is the question...
joan
is anyone working on open hardware plans for dcenter? i recently saw a 2014 interview with mc affee. He seemed proudly sober at that time. He talked about uncencorability, due to meshnetworking in a way that "can't be seen, and if it cant be seen it can't be attacked"
dr|z3d
not sure what you mean by mesh networking, but i2p itself is pretty resistant to censorship.
joan
a friend said its probably to do with low frequency radio.
dr|z3d
maybe have a look at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B.A.T.M.A.N. if you're interested in off-the-grid networking.
joan
so dr|zed, what mcAffee said in 2014/15(?) that he was working on a little device called dcenter that you put in your pocket that is always mesh networking with others in a quarter mile radius. and when you want to send a private message you would switch ur connection on ur phone to this 'hotspot' device in ur pocket and use it
joan
will do thanks
joan
i will try to stay online for a while so if anyone has any other ideas (or eepsites with info) pls pass it on.
joan
has anyone ever tried mesh networking with anything like this?
joan
as i said i suspect packet drops are being done to i2p connections, possibly on an individualized basis. Ie. not favored. You get "the treatment"
dr|z3d
there are bad actors on the network, but your router should be able to route around them.
joan
yes, but i think some isps may be doing something untoward etc
joan
isps "cooperating" to stay in the "good graces" etc
dr|z3d
that sounds like the stuff of tin hats and conspiracies :)
joan
you mean governments dont try to control things for "cyber security"?
dr|z3d
no, I mean your speculations are pretty vague and feel like tinhattery more than they do evidential.
joan
i think when you have people with a terrible connection that is borderline useless, and others who are like, "nothing wrong here". its obvious
dr|z3d
all it takes is a shitty wifi connection sometimes.
joan
there is nothing wrong with the connection
dr|z3d
whatever you're using, try something different, see if you get a different result. using i2p? try i2p+. using i2p+, make sure it's up to date!
dr|z3d
if all else fails, try i2pd.
joan
there are times when connection is excellent, there are other peopel whom ive setup i2p for, who use wifi and get MANY particating tunnels
dr|z3d
are you firewalled?
joan
that isnt a factor
joan
thanks for your idea, as i said i'll try to stay on.
dr|z3d
if your router is firewalled, you'll serve very few participating tunnels. for best results, make sure it isn't.
joan
I have just made sure that the firewall ACCEPTs the UDP port on the page 127.0.0.1:7657/confignet
joan
i think i need to write a script to make sure this happens automatically
joan
IMPROVEMENT PROPOSAL On page 127.0.0.1:7657/help#reachabilityhelp place the following text "if your router is firewalled, you'll serve very few participating tunnels. for best results, make sure it isn't." I think I'm going to write a script to ACCEPT i2p udp automatically, because i use laptop mode.
dr|z3d
whenever your ip changes, your port and router identity changes when using laptop mode. that's probably why you're not seeing much in the way of participating traffic, joan.
dr|z3d
also, you haven't registered to nickserv. please do so for continued participation in this (and other) channels.
dr|z3d
as for i2pforum, that's echelon's server, so you'll need to talk to him about access. in the meantime, maybe try ramble.i2p/f/I2P
dr|z3d
interesting router: D0Nk4~YPG9zfQsCK0PRIB9DupcEFybqgPBxv8a0MlO0=
xHarr
dr|z3d: that router is running the last update! someone should contact them to switch to the newest version!
dr|z3d
that's what the console news is for, xHarr :)
xHarr
true that
xHarr
what is interesting about that router?
dr|z3d
It appears to be running at Microsoft Corp.
xHarr
lmao
