it does update i2psnark.config. Testing right now if it really has an effect. But i am on btrfs and no clue how it handles this.
dr|z3d
shouldn't matter what the underlying filesystem is, if it's not preallocating files, they should start at 0 bytes and grow as they're downloaded.
uop23ip
set i2psnark.preallocateFiles=false, insert magnet, checked files size, are fullsized but 0 on disk, downloaded some 10mb, filesize of the downloading file on disk jumps up to full size. set i2psnark.preallocateFiles=true to see if there is a diff. insert magnet..,... Same behaviour.
dr|z3d
so the files are 0 bytes before they start downloading?
uop23ip
i got size and size on disk here. size is full and size on disk is 0 before starting.
uop23ip
files which have some downloaded data jump up to full size on disk, not growing
dr|z3d
ok
dr|z3d
so it's not pre-allocating files until data is received right now, but on receipt of data, it's "ballooning" the file it looks like.
dr|z3d
which isn't necessarily a bad thing.. if you skip files, they shouldn't be pre-allocated at all.
uop23ip
if i just started the torrent, it automatically creates all files, not just the one it is downloading from with full size and 0 on disk. Isn't that preallocation here?
dr|z3d
what size are the files on disk when they're created? 0?
uop23ip
yes
dr|z3d
then they're not being pre-allocated.
dr|z3d
what appears to be happening is that when they start downloading, then the file is ballooned, i.e. it's being filled with empty data before being overwritten.
uop23ip
shouldn't be in non-preallocation files size = filesize on disk? qcow image growing like
uop23ip
filesize on disk -> file size
dr|z3d
maybe
uop23ip
played with truncate/fallocate to see how the file size/ondisk shows up. fallocate has full file size and full file size ondisk. Truncate however creates a file with full file size and 0 file size on disk. Like in i2psnark before downloading occurs.
dr|z3d
that doesn't make any sense. I think you're trying to tell me that in the UI, the full size of the file is indicated, but on disk the file size is 0. which is correct.
uop23ip
no i checked the filesize in file browser by properties. 2 parameters there : file size and file size on disk.
dr|z3d
so if file size on disk is 0, then that's correct.
dr|z3d
see if you can make sense of that: superuser.com/questions/800961/windows-explorer-how-can-an-large-file-have-a-zero-size-on-disk-value-what
dr|z3d
also, you're on windows?
uop23ip
linux btrfs
dr|z3d
ok, sorry, you said.
dr|z3d
so the filesystem is probably compressing the empty file and de-duping all the repeated chunks. hence 0.
uop23ip
there is no different behaviour when preall is set to true or false in my tests before.
dr|z3d
ok, thanks. will investigate further.
uop23ip
i tested the qemu qcow image creation to see how this growing file shows up in properties. this should create a 1gb file: qemu-img create -f qcow2 1gb.img 1G and it size is to size on disk with 200kb. Tested on ramdisk to avoid any btrfs intervention
dr|z3d
so it's deduping repeating chunks it sounds like, because you're just creating an empty file.
cumlord
weird issue been having I think has brought up before, logs showing lot of expired leasesets, maybe too many client tunnels
cumlord
Know of any workarounds? The load on them seems normal otherwise
dr|z3d
that's something I need to look at hard, again, cumlord
dr|z3d
not entirely sure why it's happening, the expiry period is minimal, but annoying.
dr|z3d
uop23ip: so setting priorities appears to work, it's just not correctly reflected in the UI. expect a fix shortly.
uop23ip
thanks
dr|z3d
thanks for the assistance. :)
cumlord
fair enough ill spread things out more
dr|z3d
it's pretty random when it occurs, not much you can do, it's on me.
dr|z3d
ok, uop23ip, toggle all priorities on/off is now working. give me a few minutes to ensure the themes are up to scratch, then I'll build a new update.
dr|z3d
also more work on pre-allocate, maybe it'll work as intended now.
dr|z3d
building update, please stand by....
