dfr22
I did reset i2p+
dfr22
0.9.0-3+
Mustafabo
dr|z3d, wyd
dr|z3d
dfr22: nicely done.
dr|z3d
Mustafabo: you know, all sorts. :)
Mustafabo
are you selling CBD weed on the street corner to old people?
Mustafabo
old people like CBD
dr|z3d
:)
Mustafabo
I was in an elevator talking to a dude, and we talked about CBD weed, and this 90 year old man jumped into the conversation saying how he loved CBD
Mustafabo
dr|z3d, CoCo is the best parrot ever
RN
aloha Mustafabo, dr|z3d et al
dr|z3d
hi RN
dr|z3d
Mustafabo: nice. friendly? no bites?
RN
hey hey
RN
how are you doin' doc? and also, how's my favorite beard-guy Musty?
RN
how are you doin' doc? and also, Musty, how's my favorite beard-guy?
Mustafabo
dr|z3d, he doesn't bite me
dr|z3d
very good, Mustafabo
Mustafabo
He like beaks cause he's a baby
dr|z3d
sounds like a sweet bird
Mustafabo
So like he squeezes everything with his beak
Mustafabo
to feel it
Mustafabo
Yeah, he's sweet
RN
awww, you got a baby bird again?
parrot
hey dr|z3d
parrot
how are you?
parrot
hey RN & T3s|4_ & albat
parrot
long time no see
parrot
hello
parrot
i'm here
dr|z3d
hi parrot
dr|z3d
all good?
parrot
yea i'm all good
parrot
morning or evening for you dr|z3d?
dr|z3d
brb
parrot
ok
parrot
i'm back
parrot
so dr|z3d, i don't think that SSU2 was enabled
dr|z3d
1 in 4 chance, parrot, when you restart your i2p+ router. you can check on /info
dr|z3d
if it says v: 2 in the SSU section, you're on SSU2.
shiver
dr|z3d, was about to be sad when i looked at the log and saw a spike but then saw the scale and it was 50ms. And the lag was only because of the 24h reset of my isp.
shiver
So it looks like it's fixed
dr|z3d
oh, fantastic, shiver. 50ms now and again is fine, shouldn't impact anything. no drop in tunnels?
shiver
no drops
dr|z3d
brilliant
dr|z3d
the upside of zzz's patch which replaces obscuratus' patch which apparently was causing issues in i2p+ is that b32 resolves should now be instant. no more fail the first time.
shiver
i don't get 50ms spikes in normal use, the highest is 6ms over 9h
dr|z3d
6ms! great. that's better than 1.8 no?
shiver
great to hear!
shiver
yea, avg. was 12ms in 1.8 now 1ms
dr|z3d
perfect :)
shiver
looked again, in 1.8 avg was 13.3ms and max 18
shiver
over 9h
shiver
dr|z3d, thank you and everyone else for the fast help!
dr|z3d
thanks for bringing the issue to my attention. :)
dr|z3d
the fix probably merits pushing out an update on the release url, may do so later.
shiver
also, i had a strange issue where i set ulimit to 65535 after restart but checking after a while it was back to 1024 again
dr|z3d
had? did you manage to fix it?
dr|z3d
did you fallback to using crontab instead?
shiver
wrong wording, maybe have that issue again. idk what caused it
shiver
no cron
shiver
that didn't work after restart and had to do something else yesterday
shiver
but i search around, will get it to work
dr|z3d
ok
dr|z3d
I've got some other recommendations for performance on ubuntu. first off is the xanmod kernel which will in turn make the bbr2 congestion control algorithm available. and I'll paste an /etc/sysctl.conf file that's been optimized for i2p routers.
dr|z3d
wget dl.xanmod.org/xanmod-repository.deb && dpkg -i ./xanmod-repository.deb && apt update && apt install linux-xanmod
dr|z3d
that's a stable kernel with a chunk of performance optimizations.
dr|z3d
run it on a variety of systems, no issues.
shiver
restart neede?
shiver
+d
dr|z3d
for a kernel? hell yeah.. but wait a moment, you'll want the /etc/sysctl.conf file first..
dr|z3d
fileshare.linuxfarm.i2p/view/wOeuOjGLhi_9ioJpUMlT6PK9XeAd5VWK11rzSdAiC_bnxTvL1cyl/sysctl.conf
shiver
before restart i try to fix the cron stuff
dr|z3d
did you add a crontab line '* * * * * ulimit -n 65535' to both root and i2p accounts?
shiver
i did now
dr|z3d
that'll fix it.
shiver
something didn't work yesterday doing that
shiver
but dont remember the error
dr|z3d
could have been failed syntax, maybe I left an asterisk off that line. dunno.
shiver
"/tmp/crontab.2YRVgu/crontab":26: bad day-of-week
shiver
errors in crontab file, can't install.
shiver
that was the error
shiver
no, you gave me the same amount yesterday
shiver
oh wait
shiver
you also wrote is should add a second line: @reboot ulimit -n 65535
shiver
*i should
shiver
how much did you see before dc
dr|z3d
shiver> something didn't work yesterday doing that
dr|z3d
<shiver> but dont remember the error
shiver
"/tmp/crontab.BfLkIC/crontab":25: bad day-of-week
shiver
errors in crontab file, can't install.
shiver
that was the error
shiver
you also wrote i should add a second line: @reboot ulimit -n 65535
shiver
probably that was the issue
dr|z3d
no, that should be fine, that just sets the paramater when the system boots up. but it's not necessary if you're setting it every minute.
shiver
strange, i added @reboot ulimit -n 65535 now and no error
dr|z3d
yeah, was probably the other line.
shiver
if you wrote something after my last comment i didn't see it
dr|z3d
<dr|z3d> yeah, was probably the other line.
dr|z3d
now on xanmod with the new systcl.conf file operational?
shiver
lmao ulimit is still 1024
shiver
yes systcl.conf is set
shiver
and the mod installed
dr|z3d
did you add the crontab line to both root and your i2p acct?
shiver
yes
dr|z3d
well that's bizarre. try a 'watch ulimit -n' and see if the value changes
shiver
the fuck, i changed it 5min ago and its at 1024 again
shiver
whatever, ill search around, wont take your time because of this
dr|z3d
ok. there's a line in ~/i2p/i2prouter that attempts to configure limits, too, not sure it'll help, but still.
dr|z3d
# Raise the soft open files soft ulimit to this value, if able
dr|z3d
OPEN_FILES_ULIMIT=2048
shiver
its at 2048
shiver
i did cat /proc/PID/limits and looks like the router uses 65535
dr|z3d
ok, good.
shiver
about the xanmod, should i notice something special or look for in the logs?
dr|z3d
you can uname -a to verify it's running.
dr|z3d
otherwise, the performance issues you won't notice, but your router should. maybe over time you'll see differences in the router graphs.
shiver
i see it in the uname output
dr|z3d
review the info on xanmod.org to see what you're getting vs vanilla kernels.
dr|z3d
if you're doing other things on the box, you know, GUI stuff, it should feel more responsive. but a lot of stuff is low level, not blatantly obvious differences.
dr|z3d
ok, if you're running a release build of I2P+ with updates on the release path, you'll see a new release available. if you're on the /dev/ update url, business as usual.
dr|z3d
for some users this may fix intermittent job lag spikes.

hey :3
Mustafabo
How are you albat?
Mustafabo
Somebody once told me, the world was gonna roll me. I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. She was looking kinda dumb with her finger and her thumb in the shape of an "L" on her forehead
Mustafabo
albat, you know Bismarck by Sabaton?
Mustafabo
it's one of their best songs
albat
yes i know them
Mustafabo
very good band
