RN: did you get the non-booting issue fixed?
Anomaly
just inject a bootkit into it
Anomaly
gawwwd its not that hard
Anomaly
just write an asm file and make a bootloader yourself, the boot sector is 512 bytes long and ends with /0x55/0xaa
Anomaly
and something about 0x7c00 i think that also plays a role in making a bootloader
Anomaly
and then you use bios inturupts
Anomaly
you gotta seperate memory into segments, you want to keep instruction memory data memory and stack memory apart
Anomaly
i dont claim to know this stuff, im just sharing my understanding of it

Reinhilde: if your rig is close to dangerously overheating, a potentially less expensive solution may be to buy a 18" inch floor stand fan - the kind with 3 speeds, adjustable height and can swing from left to right, if you want. They blow a heck of a lot of air on high speed. About $30 USD here
Reinhilde
T3s|4: I'd need to make a smock for it that makes it only blow into the server.
T3s|4
that might work :D
Reinhilde
I'm sure it won't dangerously overheat even with quiet fans, but I don't want to even court it
T3s|4
kinda like a modified wind sock that can be seen at every airport
T3s|4
I lost 2 MBs due to overheating, which the OEM attributed to 'unexplained MB planar failure'
T3s|4
I stopped BTC mining on that laptop before my warranty expired ;p
Reinhilde
I should get an anemometer, then find a way to calculate CFM from windspeed and exhaust cross-section
Reinhilde
though i am assured that such a calculation is going to be inaccurate
Reinhilde
clearly i failed maths
Reinhilde
To calculate Air Flow in Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM), determine the Flow Velocity in feet per minute, then multiply this figure by the Duct Cross Sectional Area.
Reinhilde
Air Flow in CFM (Q) = Flow Velocity in Feet Per Minute (V) x Duct Cross Sectional Area (A)
Reinhilde
from bapihvac.com
Reinhilde
I already have a desk fan anyway. Aiming it square at the computer should help.
Reinhilde
I'd also have to add air scoops aft of the hard disk bay.
T3s|4
it certainly cannot hurt, whether it's sufficient is another matter
Reinhilde
hm
RN_
put it in fluid cooling

although I have not yet resolved the bricked tower, my odd neighbor had an extra box laying around (s)he was able to give me. I am now proceeding with my project. Σ:Đ
