Irc2PGuest952, have some questions about the 'testing more advanced installer' when you're around
Stormycloud
Happy to answer any questions on my failed wix experiment
zzz
ok first what was the goal and then have some followups on process
Stormycloud
Goal was to make a more in depth installer, auto speed test, having user select ports, unpn, some of the more common options. With the knowledge that windows users are more accustom to the next next next install process
zzz
ok, so, some growing pains here on process, no big deal, but the website probably isn't the right place to host experiments
zzz
think about what hat you're wearing when you start someting - you, your org, or the i2p org, and host it accordingly
zzz
we have scars from people starting stuff then somehow our group is responsible for it, it became official without any discussion
Stormycloud
The windows one isnt on i2p.net or am I thinking of something else completely
zzz
so we try really hard to make an acutal decision before I2P supports/hosts it
zzz
this is scripts/installlinux.sh on i2p.website I'm talking about
zzz
about a dozen changes in last 2 days
zzz
*static/installlinux.sh
Stormycloud
Ah, yes alright. This is just automatic install script that runs through the commands we have linux distros. So instead of joe typing all the ppa commands it does it and installs i2p
Stormycloud
But I understand your concern as well
zzz
so lets have some boundaries, we love experiments, but let's not host them on the official website
zzz
if it becomes something you're proud of, then we can talk about where it would live and who would support it
zzz
there's an overdue discussion to be had on the same issue about go-i2p as well
zzz
yeah Irc2PGuest39805 so in summary the official website repo is the worst possible place to do experimental script development, or any development, please move it elsewhere
zzz
orignal_, I'm working on SSU2 MLKEM 768 handshake MTU issues, I have some notes
Stormycloud
i2p.website. PR created. Can discuss here or offline
not_bob
Is i2p accepting donations again?
not_bob
Stormycloud: Also, thank you for having my eepsite front and center at that booth recently.
Stormycloud
Yes not_bob I2P is accepting donations. Of course helpful resource for all new and old users
not_bob
I'm glad to hear that. I know donations were not accepted for a long period of time.
orignal
tell me
zzz
hi
orignal
hi
orignal
ofc I'm asking about MTU
zzz
so ofc MLKEM-678 session request and session created are pretty big
orignal
cap
zzz
but Bob doesn't know Alice's MTU when he sends session created
zzz
session created is a little smaller than session request but still pretty big
orignal
bob knows
orignal
that Alice's MTU is enough for SessionRequest
orignal
and SessionCreated is always smaller
zzz
right, but may not be smaller if you want to add a lot of padding
zzz
so the answer is: use the size of the session request packet as the MTU for session created
orignal
well I can use SessionRequest size as MTU
orignal
lol we think the same ))
zzz
or actually max(minimum MTU, session request size)
zzz
exactly
orignal
good point
zzz
so I figured that out and I'm adding it to the spec
zzz
EOT on that
orignal
but what
orignal
*why
orignal
the difference is almost 100 bytes
zzz
just to document what the max size is, in case somebody wanted to add 200 bytes of padding
zzz
yeah it's 96 bytes
orignal
hence if your padding is u to 32 or even 64 your are always good
zzz
right but I know you're on a 'more padding the better' campaign ))
orignal
my padding is up to 40
zzz
just trying to document everything and make sure we're on the same page
orignal
more padding is for regular x25519
zzz
I'm 32 for session request and 64 for session created right now for ssu2
orignal
thanks. will do the same
zzz
can;t remember why ))
zzz
maybe, if you have better idea let me know
orignal
address block maybe?
zzz
anyway, looking through the logs last couple days, everything looks good
zzz
yeah address block adds a little
zzz
but still, hard to get to 96 more
orignal
96 is for PQ only
zzz
right
orignal
I see the issue with SessionCreated
orignal
will fix it
zzz
testing my sessioncreated calculations:
orignal
for some reason I create padding up to max size
zzz
03-22 22:17:02.365 ERROR [ Establisher] r.transport.udp.PacketBuilder2: v4 msg2 pktlen 1260 pqlen 1104 mtu 1349 padding 24 max 1349
zzz
ok good we had the discussion then ))
orignal
don't remeber why
orignal
anyway time to fix
orignal
will change to 64
zzz
also ofc both request and created have to be smaller than your own MTU
orignal
I know
orignal
something worng with both paddign sizes
zzz
I didn't, I do now ))
