So, does changing any translated string = setting all translated versions to ""? Or what does "break translations" imply?
dr|z3d
lbt: I still can't quite get my head around the fact you're translating the site into german, given the amount of time the site's been around and the fact echelon's a native german speaker.
lbt
I have no idea, but well, the whole topic seems to be rather complicated
dr|z3d
It's less complicated if you use transifex to handle the translated strings. I think the site also uses transifex.
lbt
You know it? Does changing a string (say removing a whitespace) reset all the already translated strings?
dr|z3d
the original english string?
lbt
ya
dr|z3d
If you change the strings, let's call it the source language, then, yes, I think you'll bork all the translated strings.
dr|z3d
just changing the capitalization of a word can have the same effect.
lbt
Wow, didn't see that coming. I assumed they just become marked "updated/recheck" with a diff shown or so, as with code merging
dr|z3d
as you say, it's complicated. I think poedit does some fuzzy matching which may mitigate changes to the source language, but it's all a bit hazy to me.
dr|z3d
transifex may do things differently. dunno.
lbt
Fuzzy-entries seem to be a mechanism in msgmerge and aim to do exactly what discussed. But won't help if it doesn't apply here ;)
lbt
It's amazing to discover how much complexity hides in all the corners
