uop23ip zzz, hi, is it technical possible to have different hops for different torrent in i2psnark. If not, would a combination of i2psnark + ext app(w/ more hops) archieve this? Can i you the standalone i2psnark besides the web one? Thanks
dr|z3d in the same instance of i2psnark, tunnel hop configuration is global, but you can run a separate snark instance, uop23ip
dr|z3d either a separate instance of snark in the router context, or snark + standalone snark.
uop23ip >a separate instance of snark in the router context - How does this work? The java router has one in it. How do i create another?
dr|z3d copy i2psnark.war in i2p/webapps and give it a different name, eg i2psnark2.war
dr|z3d you might be able to symlink it, alternatively, to ensure all instances remain the same.
not_bob I wrote an article about that a while back.
dr|z3d all good over there, not_bob?
dr|z3d uop23ip: you can, in addition, run standalone snark. a good way to see what I2P+ Snark has to offer.
uop23ip Are ok standalone is only from you, there is no from the canon?
uop23ip dr|z3d, Do i have to make a config changes to run it besides the web one. Like renaming (i2psnark standalone?) for the router console or changing ports to 8003 like in not_bob's tutorial?
dr|z3d probably, uop23ip
dr|z3d the simplest method to achieve what you want is to run standalone and the router snark together.
uop23ip not_bob, Do put this info into the i2pforum? And why can't i copy the text? Stupid browser/user or do you made the text to one svg? :)
dr|z3d in firefox, try alt+v -> page style -> no style.
dr|z3d then you can copy all the text you like.
uop23ip Thanks for the info. dr|z3d . There is no other standalone i2psnark other than yours?
dr|z3d you can build from source.
uop23ip I just wanted to ensure that there are no scammers or like, offer some version in i2p.
dr|z3d why don't you try my build before you decide you want something else, in that order?
not_bob dr|z3d: Yes, so many things to do!
uop23ip I will try yours thanks and see if there are some features not in the web. This feature of running more instances is really great btw.
dr|z3d is the right answer, uop23ip :)
uop23ip dr|z3d, you are no bot dr|z3d, aren't you? irc the exact post i got from you some time ago...,lol
dr|z3d If I'm a bot, the Turing test is dead and buried.
uop23ip yes i see. But maybe just sometimes "bot-mode" :)
dr|z3d yeah, and other times kick your ass mode. which would you prefer?
uop23ip Which is better?
uop23ip the plus one
dr|z3d I'd opt for neither, personally.
not_bob I only kick ass when I'm out of bubble gum.
not_bob uop23ip: I have not put that info on the forum, never thought to do so. It's on my blog.
uop23ip i would like sometimes to kick my ass :)
not_bob Me too. So many poor life choices!
uop23ip not_bob, sorry i meant this info is great to know and if you have spread it somewhere else as i didn't know of it. Could be interesting to others. Such info i would like to post around. Can't be bad that other know of it.
not_bob Feel free to read the other articles on the top of that page I linked.
dr|z3d maybe you can coax RN into hosting the guide, not_bob, as an alternative venue.
dr|z3d it might only take 10 years, but hey!
uop23ip Mmmmh, regarding the standalone version. Since i think that "one" to way to have more i2p users is not to put i2p in the foreground, but to have more weight into the app. People just don't need to know that they use i2p in the first imo. Muwire had some bundled/integrated i2prouter and you never really knew that there is i2p. Short: Is there something planned as a standalone i2psnark/i2prouter w/ no
uop23ip indication of i2p usage?
dr|z3d no indication of i2p usage? you run the standalone version, you never need look at the console.
dr|z3d but you do need a router, and no, there's no plan to bundle a router with the standalone version.
uop23ip Maybe it isn't such a good idea, bc you still need to download somewhere the torrents. And i2psnark/bitorrent is not searchable or this possible nowadays? So that you would never need a browser.
not_bob Correct, you still need to get the torrents from somewhere. You can use clearnet sources.
not_bob Assuming there are seeds in the swarm running I2P enabled torrent clients you will be able to download the torrents.
not_bob BiglyBT can be run in I2P only mode.
uop23ip I thought more what is needed to keep the user usage all in the standalone version like a search function for torrent-names. You can put hash into magnetic links, but something which could search over trackers for torrent filenames and got their magnetic links w/o the use of browsers just with the help of trackers and dht, would be interesting. I don't know if that is possible. Nevermind, was just an idea
uop23ip coming up and going down :)
not_bob I'm sure that could be coded, but in the end, the people who write i2psnark do not promote specific uses (such as which trackers to use). Rather, that's left to the user to decide.
dr|z3d what you're talking about is a dht search function within snark.
dr|z3d not necessarily a bad idea.
uop23ip ok so this tech "to search for torrent names" is possible w/o using some html to use ext sites in the standalone. Only with dht? dr|z3d
dr|z3d it's possible.
dr|z3d possible != probable.
uop23ip wow, bittorrent. In the future they will decide to abandon the html net world forever...lol
not_bob I wouldn't mind a dht search feature.
uop23ip sounds like a lot of ram or doesn't a search need to index all like btdigg does?
not_bob It depends on the desired outcome.
not_bob If you are sarching locally it can use more cpu time when you search. But, for a websearch you want to have it better indexed so it's faster./
uop23ip ok and the search would only run over the known tracker.Which would be 5 in i2p (and more with cross torrents?).
not_bob I'm not entirely sure where you are going with this.
not_bob If you wanted to search a bunch of trackers, you would have to scrape them often to collect data.
not_bob This takes time and resources.
not_bob If you wanted to scrap the I2P DHT, then you would have to have that running all the time collecting data.
uop23ip I meant in general how heavy it is to implement and on resources for that. I have no clue and thought about an additional db needed for that
not_bob You could do that, or just use text files. Some benifit each way.
uop23ip not_bob, did i understand you correctly that this search function does not need to pull additional data as it does this all the time.
not_bob Bah, more problems! Unrelated to here Later!
not_bob It depends on how it's done. If it's all local, then your machine is the one that has to scrape the data. If it's a cental service, then they will do that for you and just process your query.
uop23ip >To achieve bep_0005 protocol got infohash, you do not need to implement all protocol requires only now find_node (request), get_peers (response), announce_peer (response).
uop23ip and this in a loop for all files the tracker manages? Roughly?
not_bob I can't answer that.
uop23ip i just try to understand a little bit. np not_bob
uop23ip bittorent becomes more and more interesting for me. great tech
uop23ip and the search function is a bombastic feature :)
uop23ip and so would be a appimage (w/ surpressed i2prouter) i2psnarkstandalone with dht search as advice for your notSoInto buddy when he talks about to do torrenting again after a long time ago lol. With the same facial expression after telling him that he used i2p all time, as the time you said to him that he did used the kadmelia network with emule all the time. lol. There should be no difference.
