eyedeekay That's so stupid. They're... just downloading it from the wrong place.
eyedeekay It's even called vuze in the release that they're getting, and the plugin was last updated at 5710, which happens to be our 0.9.23
eyedeekay And they apparently have torrent auto updates by then, because the torrents themselves are in the sourceforge repository... so why aren't they getting updated...
eyedeekay No idea and not sure I care to look too much harder, but I'm curious how many **new** 0.9.23 routers we see
dr|z3d theory proven. vuze :)
dr|z3d the question is, can we do anything to get it removed?
dr|z3d I wonder if parg still has privs on that account.
eyedeekay Don't know, going to ask when I email him tonight
dr|z3d eyedeekay: good plan :) and the confirmation also makes switching off ssu1 an easier pill to swallow.
eyedeekay Yeah for sure, just wish I could reach these poor Sourceforge-using saps to get them on BiglyBT instead of Vuze from 2017
dr|z3d sourceforge.net/p/azureus/wiki/Home might be worth a look, if the discussion feature's still active.
dr|z3d but really that site should either be taken down or vuze needs to update its i2p plugin. maybe worth contacting the vuze/azureus devs, dunno.
eyedeekay I don't think that the Vuze devs run that one anymore
eyedeekay Or whoever is supposed to forgot about it
dr|z3d if they're on something more current, great, and if so, maybe they can do something about sourceforge.
dr|z3d last I heard it tapped out at 0.9.28 which is still pretty poor.
eyedeekay They're using some kind of CDN this is their download page(if you follow this link it will attempt to download vuze): vuze.com/download.php no apparent ties to sourceforge
dr|z3d someone's managing the page, that's what I'm driving at.
eyedeekay Talked to Parg, looks like the old Vuze SF repo is not under his control, going to try a couple things to get in touch with the possible owners and get people to upgrade before I resort to cutting off SSU1
dr|z3d eyedeekay: 10-4
not_bob CUtting off SSU1 support would hurt for getting clearnet torrents.
not_bob But, it would force them to update.
eyedeekay Yeah with all those Vuze users stuck way back there I don't want to do it unless I really need to
eyedeekay If I can find some way to get that download taken down then at least we won't get any more of them
eyedeekay And I think the "real" Vuze, languishing though it is, has an updated plugin
eyedeekay It's pre-shutdown Vuze that's to blame
not_bob I do not disagree with your choice.
not_bob At some point clients are too old and need to fall off the network.
not_bob I suspect that this will make the network a noticable bit smaller though as I'm sure a lot of people are running that and may not know it.
dr|z3d not_bob: afaik i2pd has disabled ssu1. and i2p+ has disabled ssu1. so you're probably not seeing any of those torrents anyways.
not_bob It's not a bad choice.
not_bob And, that may explain why clearnet torrents have been more trouble.
dr|z3d maybe, maybe not. if you're clueless enough to grab a super old version of vuze instead of biglybt, chances are you're clueless enough to not know how to get it working with i2p.
not_bob hah, true.
not_bob Bitly is much better anyway.
dr|z3d same lead developer.
dr|z3d well, used to be, until parg jumped ship and started his fork.
not_bob That would do it.
not_bob Doing well?
dr|z3d in short, he decided he no longer wanted to work on a product chock full of shit.
dr|z3d installer ads, bundles, all sorts of crap.
not_bob I don't blame him.
not_bob Yeah.
not_bob I refuse to use programs like that.
not_bob Then again, living in a FOSS world pretty much removes that from being a problem.
obscuratus Hasn't Vuze moved over to a 'crippleware' model? Don't they try to segment their product to a free version with disabled features, prodding their users to fork over money for a non-crippled version?
eyedeekay Yeah but there's also this other thing going on apparently where there's this old Sourceforge repository where all the old versions of Vuze prior to 2017 are still archived
eyedeekay The current Vuze people who seem to basically be capitalizing on the previous popularity of the client deliver "something" that is supposed to be Vuze via a download page on their site now and supposedly, that thing gets updates, but this Sourceforge thing seems completely forgotten about
eyedeekay At least, no one I've asked so far knows how to take it down
orignal just disble SSU completely
orignal and 0.9.23 will not be able to conenct ))
