3+1 my thinking was that it wasn't that costly for a blog to be 'more' anonymous by choosing a 3-4 length because for a blog the delay is less disruptive. I can easily make it configurable.

See that's where I was messing up, I started making it so that I could load a script into my shell and the shell would yell at me if I did certain things, like if I didn't specify a hash to generate the orig tarball from it would yell at me to specifically tell it to generate the tarball from master
